Diekema Hamann Architecture was retained by Heritage Community to create two unique living environments on their existing campus in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Wyndham West (Catered Care Unit)
This 20-apartment assisted living facility is an extension of the Wyndham Residence, an upscale independent living facility. Featuring private one- bedroom apartments with bathroom, living/dining area and kitchenette, the two-story addition will include a group living area and two group dining rooms. A sun room with adjacent cafe/shop, bank and barber shop is also available to residents, along with a wellness center and sauna. In keeping with the look of the existing facility, the addition exterior is brick with a number of bay windows. An underground parking unit provides easy access.

Amber Way (Special Care Alzheimer's Unit)
A single story building with a walk-out basement, this facility was designed with the special needs of Alzheimer's patients in mind. A familiar, residential flavor will pervade, with a family room with fireplace, solarium, kitchen and dining area located at the center of the facility. Residents will also be able to enjoy a courtyard and porch with a barbeque area, horse shoe pit and putting green. Bedrooms were designed with custom features, including dual-closets and bathrooms/toilets in easy sight. The walk-out basement will house Heritage Community offices, with the possibility of developing an adult day care facility in the future.
