On this final blog post, we look at the Khan Lab School, where the Executive Director & President of the Board, Dominic Leichti, talked about...
Springport Elementary School
Diekema Hamann was retained to transform this maturing building into an up-to-date educational facility which meets the needs of a student body of 750. This was accomplished through the extensive renovation of two portions of the existing building and light renovation of a third classroom wing, as well as construction of a 17,000 square foot addition. New mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, and sound systems were a major component of this renovation. All portions of the interior and exterior of the existing building were affected.
The new facility is divided into lower elementary and upper elementary areas which are linked by a connecting bridge. The shared spaces - including the media center, music and art rooms - are located convenient to both areas. The building exterior features new windows, a new face brick skin and pitched-roof pods which tie together the existing building and the additions and provide a playful appearance.
